Nidhi Menon

Bridging creative vision with commercially viable garment production.

Fashion Management Student

About Me

I’m a fashion management student with a solid grounding in garment production, product development, and merchandising. Alongside my coursework at university, I work in garment manufacturing, with direct involvement in  developing and executing collections for clients from various industries. That experience feeds into how I approach design by building collections that are creative, yet commercially viable and actually executable at scale.

My focus is on how fashion works as a system—connecting design with sourcing, production, and business realities. That’s where most of my work sits, backed by real manufacturing experience.

My Journey

01.

Year 1 – Two Lives Project

Collaborated with the brand Two Lives on a live brief focused on identifying and implementing more sustainable product solutions. This involved material research, lifecycle thinking, and practical design adjustments aligned with commercial feasibility. The project concluded with our team winning, validating both the strategic and executional strength of our approach.
Product Development (Core Interest Formation)
This early exposure to real-world problem-solving sparked a strong interest in product development, particularly at the intersection of design, production, and commercial viability. It shaped my academic focus over the next three years and directly influenced my placement choices and the kind of projects I pursued.

02.

Year 2 – CLO3D (Optional Module)

Chose to undertake CLO3D as an additional module to deepen my technical understanding of digital product development. This allowed me to explore virtual prototyping, reduce physical sampling dependency, and better understand the sustainability implications of digital workflows within garment development.
New Market Development – Next plc Project
Worked on a strategic expansion project for Next, analysing international market entry opportunities. The project covered consumer research, competitive benchmarking, and culminated in designing a collection tailored to the target market, balancing brand identity with regional preferences.

03.

Year 3 – “Nottingham Reimagined”

Developed a concept proposal for “Nude project” to be opened in Nottingham, focusing on spatial design, customer experience, and brand positioning. The project was presented to Nottingham business owners and the work was recognised with an award, reinforcing both the creative and commercial strength of the concept.
SmartSew – Final Year Project
Built a comprehensive business plan around SmartSew, a software solution designed to streamline operations for small-scale garment manufacturers in India. The project focused on solving real inefficiencies in production tracking, communication, and data visibility. Importantly, the concept has moved beyond theory-the software has been developed, demonstrating feasibility and real-world application potential.

Industry Experience

01.

Café Merchandise

Designed and executed merchandise collections including socks, caps, t-shirts, and hoodies. Translated brand identity into wearable products and managed the production process to ensure quality and consistency.

02.

Sports Uniforms

Designed and developed cricket uniforms, working across fabric selection, fit, and performance considerations. Balanced aesthetics with functionality to ensure suitability for active use.

03.

Production Management

Handled end-to-end production for emerging fashion startups, from sampling to final manufacturing. Coordinated timelines, managed small-batch production, and troubleshooted practical challenges.

Spatial Design & Retail Concepts

Concept proposal for “Nude project” to be opened in Nottingham, focusing on spatial design, customer experience, and brand positioning. Recognized with an award for creative and commercial strength.
